Upstate soldiers were given a hero's sendoff as they prepared to deploy for Kosovo on a peace-keeping mission.
A departure ceremony was conducted Saturday afternoon at Union High School.
The deployment is expected to last until late fall or early spring.
"The guys are very excited," said Lt. Col. Bob Carruthers of the South Carolina National Guard. "They all signed up to make a difference in someone's life."
About 500 South Carolina National Guard troops will join soldiers from nine states in the support mission. Departure ceremonies also took place in Charleston, Columbia and Gaffney on Saturday.
