BEIRUT (AP) ? NBC's chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel has told Turkish media that he would "rather forget" the five difficult days he spent in captivity inside Syria.

NBC said Tuesday that Engel and members of his production crew have been freed unharmed following a firefight at a checkpoint in Syria on Monday. The team was taken prisoner Thursday.

Engel crossed back into Turkey on Tuesday. He told the Turkish news agency Anadolu that he and his colleagues are "very happy to be out" and they are "very tired." He said they'll all be talking more in coming days.

Engel was shown hugging two members of his team, and all were smiling broadly.
