Ariel Yields to Gafne on Knesset Finance Committee Chair

Senior Bayit HaYehudi official MK Uri Ariel, who leads the party?s coalition negotiating team on Monday night the eve of 2 Adar 5773, announced he is backing down from his earlier request to be appointed as the chairman of the Knesset Finance Committee.

Ariel, number two on his party?s list, will become a cabinet minister if the party enters the coalition. He stated earlier in the week that he prefers to be chairman of the powerful Knesset Finance Committee instead of becoming a minister.

Ariel has now signaled he will not go head to head with Yahadut Hatorah over the committee, which was headed by MK Moshe Gafne in the outgoing Knesset. Ariel added that he has admiration for Gafne?s splendid work as chairman of the committee, which he too was a member of in the 18th Knesset.
